Motte Rimrock Reserve

Location

The Motte Rimrock Reserve is affiliated with the University of California, Riverside.  This ecological reserve and biological field station is located on a small plateau overlooking the Perris Valley in west-central Riverside County.  This is the smallest of the SKR Reserves totaling approximately 660 acres.

Owned and managed by the University of California, Riverside

There is no public access at this Reserve.

Potrero Reserve

Location

The Potrero Reserve is located within the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains, mostly in the city of Beaumont. It is part of the San Jacinto Wildlife Area. The RCHCA cooperatively manages approximately 995 acres of the 9,123 total acres.

Ownership

Owned and managed by the California Department of Fish and Game.

Public Access

There is no public access.

Potrero ACEC Reserve

Location 

This Reserve is located in Unincorporated Riverside County. It is designated by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). This designation is given to areas where special management attention is needed to protect historical, cultural, and scenic values, or fish and wildlife and other natural resources.  The RCHCA cooperatively manages approximately 994 acres.

San Jacinto / Lake Perris Reserve

Location

The Lake Perris Reserve is located in the city of Perris and is part of the Lake Perris State Recreation Area. This coastal sage community is home to a variety of birds and wildlife.  The RCHCA cooperatively manages approximately 11,355 acres.

Owned and managed by California State Parks and California Department of Fish and Game

Public Access

The Lake Perris State Recreation Area provides many opportunities for pubic access recreation, including hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, picknicking, camping, rock climbing, and horseback riding.  For more information please visit www.parks.ca.gov

Steele Peak Reserve

Location

The Steele Peak Reserve is located in unincorporated Riverside County near the city of Perris.  This reserve has important cultural and historical value. The RCHCA owns and manages approximately 250 of the 1,742 acres.

Multi-ownership, consortium management by:

• Bureau of Land Management
• Riverside County Habitat Conservation Agency

Public Access

Currently, there is no public access.  However, the RCHCA recognizes the importance of allowing for public access and is working on a public access plan for this Reserve.  If done appropriately, it will help the public achieve a greater understanding of the need for conservation of these lands and a better appreciation of all endangered and threatened species and the beautiful open space areas in Western Riverside County.

Southwestern Riverside County Multi-Species Reserve

Location

The Southwestern Riverside County Multi-Species Reserve (SWMSR) is located in the city of Winchester and home to the Lake Skinner Recreational Area .  The Reserve is home to many sensitive bird, mammal and plant species.  The RCHCA owns and cooperatively manages approximately 2,400 of the 14,000 acres.

• Riverside County Habitat Conservation Agency
• Riverside County Regional Parks and Open Space District

Public Access

The SWMSR allows public access at Lake Skinner Recreation Area offers recreational activities including camping, picknicking, splash pad, hiking, horseback riding, sailing, and fishing.  For more information on recreational activities available please visit www.rivcoparks.org

Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park

Location

The Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park is located in the city of Riverside.  This Reserve is approximately 1,500 acres of open space parkland and is home to a variety of plant and animal species including the Federally-listed Stephens' Kangaroo Rat.

Owned and managed by the City of Riverside

Public Access

The Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park provides many opportunities for public access recreation, including hiking and biking.  The park trails offer amazing views of the city and great birding opportunities.
